How often do we try to fix ourselves?  Berate ourselves for all the things we are not, for all the things that are still left to do, for all the things we want to achieve?

But what if we’re OK exactly as we are, in this moment?  What if we let go of the longing to be whole and perfect?

This is something I work on all the time, to accept where I am, as I am.

Because actually there’s no destination, nowhere we need to be.  You learn along the way, there are highs and there are lows (sometimes a lot of lows) but there is no destination.

It continues, life continues and ever-evolves.  The layers are deep and many, you pull back a layer and then you find there’s another one.

So how about self-acceptance instead?  Or even self-love, self-compassion, all of those things.  We’re so often harder on ourselves than we would ever be to someone else.  Can you turn your compassion inwards, to you and your heart?

Accept who you are today.  Of the body you’re in today.  Of the mind, feelings and emotions that you carry with you today, whatever they are.

Just letting it all be, exactly as you are, in this very moment.

Whether you’re feeling happy, tired, frustrated, angry, sad and even those deeper emotions, despair or grief.

Breathe into it, feel it.  It’s hard to just be with these feelings, especially the difficult ones, the deeper ones, those that feel so uncomfortable that you would do anything to make them go away.  Sometimes it’s easier to turn away from ourselves than to truly be with ourselves.

Easier to distract ourselves, to turn to food for comfort, or alcohol, or even look to someone else.  Looking for things outside of ourselves.

Turn inwards to you, comfort yourself, give yourself love.

It’s not easy, like I say a life-long journey, but start.  Start today, to accept yourself exactly as you are.

Last week at an event someone said that we are all remarkable, we just don’t allow ourselves to tell ourselves that.  Can you tell yourself you’re remarkable, glorious even?  I love these words.

You are remarkable.
